#1 Gold Chunky Jewelry - Gold jewelry was and still is a necessity to have in your closet right now. The biggest new craze is thick small hoops because they pair easily with a mini dress and a sweatsuit, either dressing an outfit up or down. It’s also cheap. Good quality jewelry that won't make your ears turn green is becoming very easy to find these days. With the high demand and the number of companies making this type of jewelry, it is widely available across the globe.
#2 Converse - Although high top Converse have been around since 1917 they continue to be worn by adults and kids all over the country. The original Converse All Star was quickly made popular after basketball star Chuck Taylor started to wear them on court. The shoe was then branded as a basketball shoe to be used during athletics. The market for Converse began to widen in the 80’s when the shoes shifted from being purely for basketball to more of a casual retro style footwear. Now, in the 20th century, converse are rarely used to participate in athletic events but have become a staple in most teens' wardrobes. Similar to the gold hoop earring they are able to match any outfit whether it be dress or jeans. Converse ability to be worn in most environments has been its biggest success and can be referred to as an “all purpose shoe”. Converse became a large trend in 2020 as people started to purchase them in a variety of colours such as brown, red , green , pink and etc. This variety of colour allows teens to mix and match with their outfits and have a shoe they know they can rely on. Another factor that makes Converse so popular is its price. Many shoes such as the Air Jordan 1 have increased in price due to high demand but Converse's consistent price makes it affordable and reliable.
#3 & 4 Sweater Vests and Pleated Skirts - I believe that sweater vests and pleated skirts are a trend that took most people by surprise. Teens are known (by their parents at least) to wear baggy clothes such as hoodies and sweaters due to their extreme comfort and warmth. So why is something so formal suddenly taking over the teen fashion world? Well, starting around June 2020 outfits that included collars, skirts and vests started becoming more popular on platforms such as Tiktok and Instagram. The “preppy look” was a change in direction for teens and provided a clean formal look at a low cost...at first. One of the most popular skirts at the time was named the Nike Pleated Victory Skirt. This skirt has since been discontinued by Nike and is now being sold for close to 300$ on second hand sites. Other pleated skirts have been released on platforms such as Amazon and Shein but they will never compare to the original.
#5 The Super Puff - The Super Puff is a coat that is made by the Vancouver based company Aritzia. I first spotted The Super Puff in 2017 but it was not deemed “popular” or “basic” until 2020. As the company began to release more and more unique colours the coat gained popularity. Plain black coats are easy to find anywhere and Aritzia had to act fast to show how their coats were different. So they did. The Super Puff is available in 30 different colours and 3 different lengths. I believe that Aritizia made a very smart choice by widening their length and colour choices. This widens their market and makes The Super Puff appealing to young kids and adults. In late 2020 Artizia even released a Mr. Super Puff to try and tap into the male market. This is Aritzia's first male product. I believe that Artizia may see a decline in sales as the coats continue to get more and more popular. Every product is great until everyone has it, and then it's simply not cool anymore. If Aritzia continues to sell jackets at this rate, I believe they should be prepared to see a decrease in sales in the year of 2022.
