Jordan 1 : The impossible shoe
The first Air Jordan 1 was released in 1985 and was originally created for Michael Jordan during his time with the Chiacago Bulls. Jordan 1’s were created as a basketball show but are now arguably the most popular street fashion shoe. The shoes are now most commonly referred to as “Jordans”.
When Jordans were first released they were solely sold by Nike and had a price tag of 65 dollars . Within the first year of production Nike had made 70 million dollars in revenue. As the shoes grew older the demand for Jordans had tanked and Nike was seeing little revenue. In 2018 they decided to pull back the majority of their production, with their mindset being “people want what they can’t have” also known as Guerrilla Marketing. Well this power play sure worked and now Jordans seem to be everyones dream show.
These days Jordans retail anywhere from 150$-2,000$ and can only be found on third party sites such as GOAT or StockX. These sites buy the shoes from Nike (as they still manufacter all the Jordans) and then sell them to people customers, most commonly in a auction style bid. Another popular way to get your hands on a pair of Jordans is buying them used off a site like Depop , Poshmark and Facebook Marketplace.
