Have someone else edit your work. Not only is it crucial to edit your own work but you must have someone else read it! Judging your own work can be difficult and grueling causing your brain to automatically block out mistakes that you dont want to see. Your brain may also block areas that could use improvement due to the fact that you have been working on it for so long. This will result in a decent piece but, it may not be your best work. Have a set of fresh eyes take a look. You never know if they might catch something your brain has subconsciously blocked out.
